Château La Croizille
Saint-émilion Grand Cru Classé

Nestling at the top of the combe, Château La Croizille has been owned by the De Schepper family since 1996. It covers 5 hectares in the Saint-Émilion grand cru appellation. The estate’s grape varieties are 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc.

CHÂTEAU LA CROIZILLE: AN EXCEPTIONAL WINE

The blend of Château la Croizille is 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. However, it may vary according to the characteristics of the vintage. The aim is to get the best out of each of our plots. This great wine with its inky colour develops a bewitching nose of black fruit with a hint of roasting. It is a rich, complex wine that impresses with its balance. Its suppleness, fine tannins and aromas make it an exceptional wine. Although it is appreciated young for its freshness and fruity aromas, it is capable of ageing well. Aging will reveal its immense potential.

In 2022, Château la Croizille had the honour of joining the ranks of Saint-Émilion grands crus classés. This is the fruit of 3 generations of hard, meticulous work by the men and women who have worked at the Château.

SAINT-EMILION GRAND CRU : A RICH TERROIR

Château La Croizille, located on the right bank of the Dordogne in Saint-Émilion, enjoys a temperate oceanic climate. The warm summers and late autumns are perfect for ripening the grapes. The estate’s soil is rich and complex. Clay-limestone soils, marl, blue clay and red clay on limestone rock.

This diversity gives each vintage complexity, power and depth. This terroir also offers sublime views over the combe. From the terraces, you can admire this landscape, which was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.

DEVELOPING WINE TOURISM AT CHÂTEAU LA CROIZILLE

In 2013, Château La Croizille decided to open its doors to visitors, making it a pioneer in this field. It was a decision taken by Hélène De Schepper, daughter of Jacques De Schepper, owner of the Château. Following the completion of numerous improvements and the development of various tours and tastings, the Château and its team were awarded the most prestigious Global Great Wine Capital prize in 2015 for their wine tourism service as a whole.

After more than ten years of welcoming visitors from all over the world, who are still captivated by this extraordinary view, the Château continues to improve its offering. It now has a wine bar, an outdoor tasting area, and immersive tours and tastings about our wines and our history.

A CHÂTEAU AT THE CUTTING EDGE OF TECHNOLOGY

2012 saw the start of construction of a brand new winery, featuring contemporary architecture and incorporating the latest technical improvements and innovations. The grapes are sorted by hand, then by laser, to ensure perfect berry quality. Then, once harvested, the grapes are transported in vats above each of the vats.

What’s more, the vat room has been meticulously designed and fitted out to facilitate every stage of the winemaking process. Its ergonomics have been specially designed to facilitate the work and encourage the technical development of our team. As a result, the strategic layout and meticulous choice of equipment mean that energy and water consumption is more environmentally responsible.

SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE

Over the years, respect for the environment has become a major issue in our vine-growing practices. In particular, mating disruption allows us to combat grape worms in an environmentally-friendly way. Treatments are carried out in a reasoned way to limit inputs and respect our soil and the local flora and fauna.

Château La Croizille is proud to hold the level 3 High Environmental Value label. This label represents an exhaustive assessment of our practices, from the vine to the bottle, in favour of our environment. To continue this approach, the estate is preparing to move up to level 4 of the label, demonstrating its ongoing commitment.

In conclusion, the combination of all these elements has led us to produce exceptional wines, recognised and appreciated by our many experts. Discover the best scores.
