The Estate

Clos la Rivière, Les Schistes de Paul is a family estate located in Assignan, in the heart of the Saint-Chinian appellation. The vineyard sits on high-altitude schist slopes, offering a unique and mineral terroir. The Les Schistes de Paul cuvée is dedicated to one of the family members, symbolizing their attachment to their roots, the land, and tradition. Vineyard work is environmentally conscious, and the winemaking aims to reveal the full authenticity of the Languedoc terroir.

The wine

Les Schistes de Paul is a blend predominantly of Carignan complemented by Syrah. The old vines, rooted in poor soils, produce low yields but high concentration. Vinification is carried out gently, with long macerations, followed by aging in tanks and partially in barrels. The resulting wine is expressive, structured, and typical of Saint-Chinian, with a beautiful mineral freshness derived from the schist soils.

Tasting notes

Deep purple robe. The nose opens with aromas of black fruits (blackberry, plum), sweet spices, garrigue, and graphite. On the palate, Clos La Rivière – Les Schistes de Paul offers a velvety texture, well-integrated tannins, and lovely tension. The persistent finish evokes licorice, black pepper, and dried southern herbs. A wine of character, profound and sincere.
