Amarone Selezione Antonio Castagnedi 2018 is a family-run winery managed by the Castagnedi brothers in the Mezzane di Sotto region, in the heart of Valpolicella. Their Selezione Antonio Castagnedi cuvée pays homage to their father and symbolizes their commitment to quality. The vineyard stretches across limestone slopes between 200 and 300 meters above sea level. The estate combines traditional winemaking techniques, hand-harvesting, and cutting-edge technology to enhance the indigenous Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, and Croatina grape varieties. Each bottle reflects the power, elegance, and soul of great Amarone wines.
It is made using the traditional appassimento method: the grapes are harvested at perfect ripeness, then dried for over three months to concentrate the sugars, aromas, and tannins. The slow fermentation is followed by aging in French oak barrels for 24 months. This 2018 vintage reveals a velvety texture, a full structure, and lovely freshness. It is an Amarone that combines richness, balance, and drinkability, ready to be enjoyed now or cellared for another 10 to 15 years.
Deep garnet in color. The nose blends candied black cherry, cocoa, sweet spices, and licorice. On the palate, this wine offers a silky texture, perfectly integrated tannins, and a long, slightly balsamic finish. The balance between power and elegance is remarkable. This wine can be enjoyed now with game, a stew, a creamy risotto, or simply on its own, as a contemplative wine.
