In 2022, Château Tour Baladoz became a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru classé, rewarding decades of hard work. In 1950, the De Schepper family took over the reins of the estate. CHÂTEAU TOUR BALADOZ: exceptional wines

La Dame de Baladoz

First, la Dame de Baladoz, the second wine of Château Tour Baladoz, made from young vines. This cuvée is made from 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Designed to be enjoyed young, this wine stands out for its fine acidity and fruity aromas. It goes perfectly with cold meats and cheeses for aperitifs with friends, for example.

Château Tour Baladoz

Château Tour Baladoz is the grand vin of the eponymous estate. Made from the six grape varieties of the appellation. The powerful structure of this wine reveals rich aromas of blackberries, cherries, spices and vanilla. It can be enjoyed young, and goes perfectly with a fine piece of red meat. After 20 years’ cellaring, it is a perfect match for more delicate dishes such as tournedos Rossini. What’s more, its versatility extends even to chocolate desserts, where its tannins blend with those of dark chocolate, for example.

Château Tour Baladoz Le centenaire

Although the estate usually produces two distinct wines,2009 and 2010 were different. In those years, hundred-year-old vines with very low yields but exceptional concentration were about to be uprooted. So, for Jean-Michel Garcion, the Managing Director, creating a unique cuvée from these old vines was the best way to pay tribute to them. The know-how, the exceptional terroir and the extraordinary climatic conditions made it possible to create the cuvée « Le Centenaire « . After more than a decade of ageing, this wine is still very young. This wine requires a special occasion to be enjoyed, but above all, it needs to be shared with loved ones.

DEVELOPING WINE TOURISM AT CHÂTEAU TOUR BALADOZ

In 2013, the estate launched its wine tourism activity under the direction of Hélène De Schepper. A pioneer in the Bordeaux winegrowing region, this was a new departure in creating attractive experiences for everyone. Over the last ten years, wine tourism has continued to grow, making the estate one of the leaders in Saint-Émilion. Visitors have the opportunity to discover a Château steeped in history. First with a visit to our traditional concrete vat room. Then, barrel ageing takes place in a semi-buried cellar, benefiting from the natural temperature and humidity of the soil, ideal for ageing wine. As a result, all these elements give the site its identity of tradition and sharing.

LE TERROIR

The soil, the sky...

Firstly, the estate on the right bank of the Bordeaux vineyards, in the heart of Saint-Émilion Grand cru, enjoys a temperate oceanic climate. Warm summers and relatively mild winters help the grapes to ripen, with rainfall well distributed throughout the year. Secondly, our vines are rooted in clay-limestone soil with a limestone subsoil, ensuring adequate water retention even during summer periods and episodes of intense heat. Finally, the presence of limestone enables the vines to produce concentrated grapes, essential for making great wines.

The men du Château Tour Baladoz

The Château team continues the tradition of Saint-Émilion wines by using concrete vats for fermentation. The concrete ensures precise temperature control, encouraging the development of aromas typical of the terroir. La Dame de Baladoz is then matured for a year in previously used barrels, adding a slight structure to the wine. For the estate’s first wine, we use exclusively new French barrels. This approach aims to achieve a structure that will allow the wine to age for more than 20 years without altering its aromas.

SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE CHÂTEAU TOUR BALADOZ

Finally, the estate has always been committed to respecting its environment. This means taking preventive action, using gentle methods such as mating disruption to prevent grape berry worms. Treatments are carried out in a reasoned way, in order to preserve our soils as well as the flora and fauna. In addition, the grapes are harvested by hand, thus limiting the soil compaction caused by the use of harvesting machines. As a result, these measures help to preserve our biodiversity.
