CLASSIFICATION OF SAINT-ÉMILION GRAND CRU WINES

The Classification of Saint-Emilion Grand Cru wines. Unlike the 1855 classification, this one is not set in stone. However, the Saint Emilion Grand Cru classification is revised every 10 years. This means that winemakers are obliged to produce a great wine every vintage. To qualify for inclusion in the classification, you need to be part of the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation, and create a dossier describing the history of your Château, its philosophy and, above all, the quality of its wines. A panel of 20 Bordeaux wine experts will then visit the property to taste the last 10 vintages of your Château. The aim is to assess their quality and their capacity for ageing. Each wine is given a score. If the average of these scores is over 14, you are eligible to join the select circle of Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classés.

This was the case for Château La Croizille and Château Tour Baladoz , both of which received the award in the same year. This classification rewards several years of hard work producing wines of superior quality.
