THREE GENERATIONS OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE
The De Schepper family owns five vineyards in Bordeaux and the De Mour trading house. Know-how handed down from generation to generation, mastery of every stage from vineyard to glass, and a portfolio of top-of-the-range products thanks to exclusive partnerships with winegrowers are undeniable values of the house.
Rabotvins founded by Emile de Schepper and Ghislaine de Moor
Emile and Ghislaine began their business making genevas and liqueurs. Ten years later, they decided to import and distribute a range of French wines.
Acquisition of Château Tour Baladaoz
A letter dated 26 April 1950, sent from Libourne by Emile De Schepper to his wife in Ghent, tells us that the next day the property known as Château La Tour Baladoz would change hands and become their first wine château. The estate, located in Saint-Laurent des Combes, in the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation, comprised a manor house, a winemaker’s house, a wine storehouse, a vat room, vines (5ha 56ares) and quarries.
Busy with the commercial development of his Belgian company, Emile De Schepper entrusted the management of Château Tour Baladoz to a Bordeaux manager. The wine was exported only in barrels to Belgium, to be bottled in Ghent in the Rabotvins winery.
Acquisition of Château Haut Breton Larigaudière
Château Haut Breton Larigaudière, in the Margaux AOC, is located in Soussans. It has been listed under the name ‘Larigaudière’ among the châteaux of Soussans since 1838 (ref. Le Producteur) and among the 1er Crus Bourgeois Supérieurs since 1886. The new owners passionately set about rebuilding the estate, which comprises 2 hectares of vines, one hectare of parkland, a château and a group of farm buildings.
Foundation of G.De mour & fils
Emile’s two sons, Firmin and Jacques De Schepper, join their parents at the head of the companies in Belgium and Bordeaux and gradually take over the reins. In Belgium, they focused on wines and aperitifs.
While Jacques is mainly responsible for financial management, Firmin manages the estates and trading. He divides his time between Belgium and Soussans. His presence in the Bordeaux region became more and more frequent, and the quality and reputation of the family estates continued to grow. The company G. De Mour et Fils was founded. Its name originated from the surname of Emile De Schepper’s wife.
Takeover of Château Tayet
In early 1992, Marc Raymond, the steward of Château Haut Breton Largaudière, decided to retire. From then on, Château Tayet, his property in Macau in the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation, became the third wine estate run by the De Schepper family.
After studying wine in Nantes and Mâcon, this enthusiastic professional expanded his knowledge through the world’s most renowned vineyards. With the open-mindedness that characterizes him and particularly rich experience, he took on the management of the estates and trade in Bordeaux under Jacques’ guidance.
Investing in quality is the motto of the two men.
Jean-Michel is fully committed to his new responsibilities. He is responsible for a general improvement in the quality of the family’s wines and for creating a broad portfolio of trading wines.
Acquisition of Château La Croizille
Adjacent to Château Tour Baladoz, the vineyard of Château La Croizille proves to be a true marvel due to the exceptional quality of its terroir and its rugged terrain. A historic property in the commune of Saint-Laurent des Combes that has belonged to prominent Bordeaux families and merchants, it is situated between Château Troplong Mondot and Château Tertre Roteboeuf.
Acquisition of Château Lacombe Cabiot
The family acquires its fifth property located in Ludon, within the Bordeaux Supérieur appellation. The total surface area of the vineyards cultivated by the De Schepper family now amounts to 55 hectares.
