The Estate
Babich Wines, founded in 1916, is one of New Zealand’s most iconic family-run estates. Established in Marlborough since the 1980s, the Babich family produces wines renowned for their aromatic purity and balance. Through sustainable viticulture and meticulous winemaking, the estate produces authentic and modern wines. The Babich Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2021 is a perfect example, expressing all the freshness and finesse that this grape variety can offer in the southern hemisphere.
The wine
The grapes were harvested at peak ripeness, then gently crushed and pressed. The must was then fermented in stainless steel vats at carefully controlled temperatures tailored to each vineyard block, in order to preserve all the freshness and aromatic character typical of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
Following several tastings and meticulous selections, the various vintages were blended and then bottled.
Tasting notes
Visually, the wine has a pale colour with green highlights; it is bright and crystal-clear, promising freshness and liveliness.
The nose is immediately expressive: it opens with intense aromas of lime, grapefruit and passion fruit.
On the palate, the attack is clean and dynamic. The texture is lively, supported by a lovely acidity that gives the wine structure without being harsh. The citrus and exotic fruit aromas linger with clarity, offering a lingering sensation of freshness and a long, crisp and thirst-quenching finish.
This wine pairs perfectly with seafood (oysters, mussels, prawns).
