What is buying wine en primeur?

Buying wine en primeur, a practice typical of Bordeaux, involves reserving wines from the most recent vintage that are still in the process of being made. One or two years later, once bottled, the bottles are delivered.

Advantages of buying wine en primeur:

  • Attractive pricing: The price of the wine upon release is higher than during the en primeur sale, so you save money!

  • Value appreciation: The wine’s popularity and rating may increase, raising its value between purchase and delivery.

  • Guaranteed availability: Buying en primeur ensures the availability of desired wines in the quantities you want, which may be difficult to secure later.

A resolutely modern wine

Château La Croizille joined the prestigious Saint-Emilion Grands Crus Classés classification in 2022. The neighbouring property of Château Tour Baladoz belongs to the De Schepper family, who have achieved the remarkable feat of having two of their properties included in this classification in the same year. To mark this event, our wine has been given a brand new label. A new design with a more assertive identity.

The colour orange has always been the hallmark of the Château’s identity, and not only in its architecture, but also in many of the natural elements all around us. Whether it’s the vines that glow orange in autumn, the clay soil with its ochre sheen, or the spectacular sunsets that can be seen regularly at the Château.

The property

Renovated in 2012, the château’s cellar stands out from its neighbours with its contemporary architecture and distinctive orange colour. Acquired by the De Schepper family in 1996, the vines of Château La Croizille enjoy a remarkable location in the heart of the legendary Saint-Émilion vineyards.

This single vineyard on the slopes of the clay-limestone plateau of Saint-Emilion, nestling in a sort of cirque at an altitude of between 30 and 70 metres, neighbours that of Château Tour Baladoz, in Saint-Laurent des Combes, between Tertre Roteboeuf and Troplong Mondot.
